Got Berries?

We’ve all known how delicious berries are, but did you know how good for you they are too? New findings are showing that the pigments that give berries their deep beautiful coloring are full of healthful ingredients such as phytochemicals and flavonoids. Adding even a small amount of berries into your diet can add necessary antioxidants, vitamins, flavonoids and carotenoids which help prevent damage to our cells caused by a process called oxidation.

Quercetin is one of the flavonoids that give many fruits, flowers, and vegetables their color. Flavonoids are antioxidants, which are able to scour the body for damaging particles known as free radicals (which damage cell membranes, tamper with DNA, and even cause cell death) and neutralize them. Quercetin acts like an antihistamine and an anti-inflammatory, and may help protect against heart disease and cancer. Phenols are responsible for protecting the heart from disease, reducing risks of cancer, and acting as an overall anti-inflammatory fruit.

Blueberry – In test after test, blueberries are always at the very top of the list of fruits and vegetables that are high in antioxidants, which can help slow the aging process and reduce cell damage that can lead to cancer. That beautiful deep blue color is related to high amounts of phytonutrients called anthocyanidins, which are directly connected to the process of neutralizing free radical damage in our cells.

Blackberry – Another fruit loaded with powerful antioxidants. Blackberries are also extremely high in some of the highest forms of chronic disease and cancer-fighting compounds: vitamins C, E, and ellagic acid. Blackberries also contain a soluble fiber known as pectin, which studies link to lowered levels of cholesterol.

Benefits of Beetroot

Over the last few years, more and more studies of beetroot juice are showing remarkable results – for people of all ages and physical conditions.
